September 5 Update: Last call. Only 2 days left and it's the only time of year they'll do this promotion. Traditionally, this is better than any offers they have for Black Friday or Boxing Week.
August 17 Update: Back to school is drawing close! If you're thinking of going to the Mac route, this is easily one of the best deals available.

You can once again buy a Mac and get a free iPod through September 7, 2010.
Here's how it works: if you’re a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level, purchase an applicable iMac or Mac in the Apple education store and an iPod at the same time by September 8. Then, submit the mail-in-rebate (PDF) and you'll be reimbursed for the cost if the iPod (before taxes). To clarify, while the iPod Touch features prominently on the promotion page, the rebate form itself clearly states that other iPods are available for this promotion.
There's more! Along with the free iPod, Apple has a pre-existing offer where the you can get a $100 rebate on a printer with the purchase of a Mac. It works the same way as the iPod offer -- buy a printer at the same time as a Mac and submit the appropriate rebate form. We've seen lots of reports that you can indeed get both -- just send all the UPCs at once and the accompanying rebate forms.
Keep in mind that Apple discounts the cost of the Macs with the Apple Education Discount, so you are actually saving anywhere from $50 to $200 on the Mac itself.
