Thanks, #2 & #3. Is the single 18mm-55mm lens enough for regular use? I will mainly use to take photos of my kids. Do I need one more lens something like 35mm (or 50mm) f1.8 (or f1.4)?

18-55mm should suffice regular needs.

Maybe you'd want a longer lens for larger zoom, but prime lenses should be something you consider after.

Thanks, #5 & #6. So Canon or Nikon body with a 18mm - 55mm lens is a good start. Technically (or generally), what is the difference between Canon and Nikon, i.e. what aspect is Canon camera good at and what aspect is Nikon god at?

我也刚开始学，用的D90,带了一个18-105的镜头，觉得还可以。以后换个镜头能拍风景什么的，我给孩子拍也很好用。

Generally, Nikon is more vivid while Canon is softer. But again, equipment isn't really important at entry or pro level imo.
