不管选择什么样的雪胎,必须有这样的标志:the Transport Canada/RAC mountain/snowflake,the Transport Canada是加拿大交通,RAC是Rubber Association of Canada (加拿大橡胶轮胎协会),印有mountain/snowflake说明该轮胎符合雪地驾车的要求。

Why You Need Snow Tires - 10 Tips
http://www.carchick.ca/2010/10/why-you-need-snow-tires-10-tips.html

Snowtire-200 The chilly air and falling leaves are a reminder that winter driving season is just around the corner. You may be asking yourself the same question you ask every year: should you invest in snow tires or will your all-season tires see you through to spring? Joe Sforza of Active Green + Ross Service Centre in Mississauga, Ontario offers these tire tips and facts.

1. Determine the conditions you will be driving in. Are you a city driver or do you ski and participate in other winter activities? Is your schedule flexible – can you stay home in a snow storm or do you need to drive to work and get the kids to school? If you will be heading up north and have to drive no matter what the weather, you will want to invest in good winter tires.

2. All-season tires lose their grip in lower temperatures. Below 7 degrees Celsius, the rubber compound in all-season tires hardens and that means the tires lose their traction – think of a hockey puck skimming across the ice. Winter tires are made from a rubber compound that will maintain softness and grip in temperatures up to -45 degrees Celsius, which is why they are proven to have shorter stopping distance in winter conditions.

3. Consider how long you will be keeping your vehicle. If you plan to keep your vehicle for at three to five years, invest in snow tires. In that time you would have purchased two sets of tires anyway. If you buy winter tires now, you’ll be using them about five months a year and your all-seasons the other seven months. That means investing in your two sets of tires upfront, but you have the added benefit of added safety for winter driving.

4. Invest in winter rims. Some people try to save money by using only one set of rims and transferring their tires each season. But with the extra cost and potential damage of mounting and dismounting both sets of tires, you’ll actually save money in the long run by investing in winter rims for your winter tires.

5. Choose “hub-centric” over “multi-fit” rims. In tire ads, you may see these two rim options available. The difference is that with on multi-fit rims the centre hole is enlarged to accommodate different tire sizes, but with hub-centric the centre hole matches the vehicle. The benefit is that there is less stress on the lug nuts and less chance of vibration at high speeds. Hub-centric are slightly more expensive, about $10 more each, but they can save your tires from potential damage and improve your ride.

6. Change all four tires. Many people ask if they need two tires or four. The answer is four. For one thing, if you are going to use your tires half the year as in point 3, you will need to change all four, otherwise your set of all-season tires will wear unevenly. Also, changing two tires is like being half safe – it can cause over-steer (fish tailing) or under-steer (turning the wheel to the left or right while the car continues forward).

7. Don’t wait for the first snowfall to change your tires. It happens every year – everyone waits until the last minute to change to their snow tires, then the first storm hits and the service centres are packed. Avoid the stress and plan ahead. It’s good to change to your snow tires when temperatures are consistently below 7 degrees Celsius, usually mid- to late-October.

8. Don’t let storage issues keep you from being safe on the winter roads. Many condo and apartment dwellers don’t invest in snow tires simply because they have nowhere to store them. There are companies and tire dealers who can store your tires during the off season for you for a nominal fee, which is much less than the cost of even a minor fender bender these days.

9. Store tires on their sides. Stack the tires you’re not using on the side walls, not on the tread. This will avoid flat spots from developing on your tires.

10. Check the tread depth at the end of the season. A snow tire is no longer considered a snow tire when the tread has worn to under 5 mm – then they are no different from all-season tires. Winter tires should last three to four winter seasons, but this will vary based on how much driving you do. It is best to check the tread at the end of the season. That way, you will know if you need to purchase new tires in the fall, and can budget for this expense.
