EMC Events - Glasses will clink and palates will be wowed at the ninth annual Food For Thought on Nov. 18 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Kanata.
This will be the ninth year that the Kanata Chamber of Commerce has hosted the food and wine show and partial proceeds will be donated to the Kanata Food Cupboard to help it prepare for the Christmas season.
Over the past nine years the Chamber has donated approximately $30,000 from the event, including $2,000 last year.
Chamber general manager Rosemary Leu says it is a wonderful event, which showcases local chefs and restaurants in the area.
"It's a great opportunity to sample some of the fabulous cuisine that they can create," said Leu. "It's also an important fundraiser for the Kanata Food Cupboard at this time of year. That's certainly an organization in our community that needs our support."
Amanda Burnside, volunteer coordinator at the Kanata Food Cupboard, is looking forward to the event and is thankful for the Chamber's continued support.
"We are grateful that the Chamber of Commerce has chosen the Kanata Food Cupboard as their beneficiary for the Food For Thought," said Burnside. "We appreciate their continued support over the years and look forward to helping them with the event. With the support from the Chamber of Commerce, it helps us serve those in our community better."
Volunteers will also be at the event collecting donations for the Food Cupboard and everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item. Eleven local restaurants will be involved including Wildwood Steak and Chophouse, Bin 790 Tapas and Wine Bar, Graffiti's Restaurant and Saloon, and Heart and Soul Café from Dunrobin.
"We really try and involve a lot of the businesses within our community, not just in Kanata...a few from Stittsville and other areas in Goulbourn as well," said Leu.
Tickets are $45 for Chamber members and $55 for non-members. Leu says it's a unique event because the one cost covers the entire show.
"It's a one price food and wine show which is kind of nice because (for) a lot of the other food and wine shows in the city the ticket price is low but once you are inside you are paying for certain samples," said Leu. "With our food and wine show, it is one ticket price with no extra costs."
There is also a live and silent auction with proceeds going to the Food Cupboard as well. Leu says they are still looking for more items.
"The more prizes we have the more money we raise," said Leu.
Leu believes it's a great opportunity to sample different wines from around the world while enjoying a fun atmosphere.
"It's definitely an opportunity to just have a nice informal night out and raise some money for a good cause," said Leu.
There are 300 tickets available and anyone interested can visit www.kanatachamber.com or call 613-592-8343 for more information.
