ESPN's World Club Top 25

Real Madrid became the first side to clinch a place in the Champions League quarterfinals last week and moved into the top spot of the ESPN World Club Top 25. The Spanish giants celebrate their centennial with the hopes of capturing the first of three trophies this season in the Copa del Rey final this week against Deportivo.

The ESPN World Club Top 25, a computer-based ranking system developed by ESPN International, will be released every Sunday night throughout the football club season. The rankings are announced during ESPN International's SportsCenter broadcast from Buenos Aires.

Notes on the Top 25:

Dennis Bergkamp scored one of prettiest goals of the year and set up another as Arsenal moved to within one point of Manchester United in the English Premier League race. Manchester United was held to a 2-2 draw at Derby. Liverpool also took advantage with a 2-0 win at Fulham.

Inter is now top of Serie A after a 1-0 win over Milan in the derby at the San Siro on Sunday. Christian Vieri's game winner in the 78th minute was the difference for Inter, who moved past Roma, who was held to a 1-1 draw by Lecce.

Elsewhere in Spain, Deportivo and Valencia each won 1-0 on the road this week in league play and both clubs made a major move in their European hopes. Deportivo defeated Juventus 2-0 in Champions League action while Valencia cruised into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup with a 5-2 aggregate win over Servette.

The Bundesliga race became a little bit tighter after Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen were held to draws at the weekend. Bayern Munich, 2-0 winners in Stuttgart, moved to within three points of the Bundesliga lead.

Gremio continued to be the class of the Copa Libertadores after posting its third straight victory.

AC Milan, PSV and Feyenoord moved into the Top 25 after advancing to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup on Thursday. Dutch rivals PSV and Feyenoord will face each other in the quarterfinal stage.

Other derbies on the schedule this week include the Old Firm clash between Celtic and Rangers and the Boca-River clash in Buenos Aires.
