Ottawa residents might want to put on their rubber boots and pack their umbrellas due to an Environment Canada heavy rain warning for Tuesday afternoon.
The Ministry's weather office issued a weather warning for the National Capital Region, predicting 50 mm of rain over a 24-hour period beginning Tuesday afternoon, with total rainfall of 60 to 70 mm possible in some locations, especially in the eastern part of the region.
Communities in Western Quebec are also warned that as much as 80 mm of rain could fall dfuring the same time period.
Light rain is expected to begin in the afternoon before turning heavy in the evening. Winds are also expected to gust to 30 km per hour on Tuesday night.
The rain is expected to turn into wet snow by Wednesday afternoon.
A strong low-pressure system moving from Minnesota across Lake Superior into Northeastern Ontario is responsible for the heavy precipitation, Environment Canada said.
