February 4-12: A Chinese Flavour For Winterlude
The National Capital Commission, in collaboration with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Canada, will sponsor activities highlighting the Chinese New Year, in Confederation Park, February 4 -12. Activities will include a garden of lanterns, dance performances, a photo exhibit and tea ceremonies in an Asian yurt, and the participation of two teams of ice carvers, straight from the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival in China. The celebrations will include a competition during the first week and an exhibition in the second week. Four Chinese ice-carvers will be attending both the competition and the exhibition. The Jinfan arts troupe will perform Saturday and Sunday morning (Feb. 5 & 6).
February 8: Chinese New Year Show by the Golden Sail Troupe of BeijingThe Chinese Community of Outaouais and the Canada-China Cultural Development Association invite you to the Canadian Museum of Civilization, 7 p.m. to watch the Golden Sail Troupe of Beijing, a group of talented young dancers and musicians who have performed nationally and internationally, and won many prizes at festivals and competitions. The Troupe performed at the Ottawa Canal Festival last year, and received a standing ovation for their show. Tickets are available at the Box Office of the Museum. La Communauté chinoise de l'Outaouais, en collaboration avec l'Association du développement culturel Canada-Chine ont le grand plaisir de vous inviter à un spectacle musical qui aura lieu au Théâtre du Musée canadien des civilisations à 19h00. La Troupe de la Voile Dorée de Pékin, est un groupe de jeunes artistes talentueux qui ont participé à plusieurs spectacles nationaux et internationaux et, a obtenu plusieurs prix au cours des 10 dernières années. Elle s'est également acquise l'admiration des spectateurs canadiens pendant le Festival du canal Rideau d'Ottawa l'année dernière. February 13, 2011: Chinese New Year Festival
You are welcome to join the 2011 Chinese New Year Festival at Tudor Hall (3750 N. Bowersville Rd.) on February 13, 2011. The festival is a tradition in the Ottawa Chinese Community and has been well attended by several thousand people each year. This year the festival is hosted by the Chinese Community Association of Ottawa. Several famous artists’ groups will play their exciting performances. Dozens of educational, financial, non-profit and religious groups, businesses and community services will set up their booths at the show. The event is from 10:30 am till 5:00 pm with lion & dragon dance, chorus, children’s dances, and all kinds of Chinese music.
February 21: A Chinese Carnival: Celebration of Chinese New Year
At 8 p.m, National Arts Centre, performed by the Chinese National Broadcasting Performing Art Troupe. This 70-performer troupe stuns audiences with their dynamic and multi-cultural productions featuring dazzling acrobatic displays, ethnic and Chinese classical dances and music.
