Starting Sunday, April 17, the Transitway will be extended through Barrhaven, and transit service in the community will be revamped to take advantage of the many benefits of the new buses-only roadway. As part of their regular spring service change, OCTranspo will also introduce new schedules, make several routing adjustments, and restart the Rack & Roll program, which provides transit customers with bike racks on buses.
Service in Barrhaven will become faster and more convenient with the opening of 3km of buses-only roadway between Fallowfield and Barrhaven Centre, and two new stations — Longfields and Marketplace. This new Transitway service, featuring 24-hour service on Route 95, will provide customers with faster, more reliable, and more direct travel, better connections, increased capacity and frequency, and improved convenience. Barrhaven bus routes affected include Routes 70, 71, 73, 76, 77, 95, 170, 171, 173, 176, 177 and 186. In addition, new Route 175 will be introduced replacing Route 177 in Stonebridge, Route 181 will be replaced by an extension of Route 173 to Bayshore, and Route 195 will be replaced by more frequent service on Route 94.
New spring schedules will reflect the anticipated lower seasonal demand for service. Minor schedule reductions mainly affect routes serving colleges and universities and peak period routes.
Other service improvements to better serve our customers throughout the City this spring include:
•Improved commuter travel time from Orléans, Kanata and Barrhaven to downtown by limiting the amount of stops made in the morning on Express and Rural Express routes.
•More efficient service through the downtown core by running fewer buses, but using articulated buses to maintain capacity.
•More frequent and longer service hours for Route 94, and an extension of this route from Tunney’s Pasture to Barrhaven, which will replace Route 195, which reduces transfers for some customers and supplements Route 95.
•Reduced transfers and a decrease in overcrowding at stations west of downtown, by offering some westbound afternoon trips on Routes 95 and 96 starting in Gatineau.
•Expanded service hours along North Service Road on Route 122 in Orléans.
•Addition of four new early trips on Route 163 from Stittsville to better serve morning commuters.
New printed timetables are available at OC Transpo Sales Centres and through the mail by calling 613-741-4390. Schedules are also available atoctranspo.com.
Bike racks will be reinstalled on more than 350 buses, so cyclists can take their bicycles and ride the bus. In addition to routes 12, 85, 95, 96, 97, 99, 101, 106 and 118, Route 94 will also become a designated Rack & Roll route. Most trips on these routes will offer bike racks, and customers can also use the Advanced Travel Planner to confirm which trips have bike racks by checking the 'Bike Rack' option on the date and time page.
For automated bus arrival information, customers can call 613-560-1000 plus their four-digit bus stop number. For more information and travel planning, visit octranspo.com or call 613-741-4390.
The next regularly scheduled service change will take place on June 26. The fall service change in September will reflect the results of the network optimization proposal and public consultations.
