Job Title: MAPLE Diversity Counsellor
Job Status: Full Time Position (35 hours)
Reports To: Project Manager
Location: Ottawa, ON
Salary: $27.89/hr
Funded by Citizenship Immigration Canada, Multiculturalism Branch, the OCCSC manages a national program (Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver) called MAPLE (Multiculturalism Achievement Program for Learning Employers). Project MAPLE is designed to support the integration of newcomers by informing and promoting multiculturalism with Canadian employers. This project works with employers to foster intercultural understanding and pluralism in the workplace by increasing the interaction between newcomers and employers in a professional setting. The Diversity Counsellor helps to coordinate employer internships as well as mentorship and training activities for clients in Ottawa.
Responsibilities:
Promote the clients, services and program amongst local employers, community partners and stakeholders.
Network and build partnerships with local employers and develop diversity/multiculturalism events with prospective employers
Reach the target rate of 90% employment for the newcomers with 50% placed in their professional field.
Establish mentorships between newcomers and employers of similar professional background
Work with the Project Manager to develop and execute an effective outreach strategy targeting appropriate clientele. Based upon program eligibility requirements, recruit 30 employers to the program
Provide continued support to existing employers and newcomers, update their employment status in the database and produce monthly and annual reports as per program requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements:
University degree with minimum 2-3 years of professional work experience in recruitment related field. Sales and human resources management experience will be absolute assets.
Proven network with local employers. Strong networking and selling skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.
Thorough understanding of local labour market, education/training systems and resources, strong knowledge of employment issues and barriers experienced by newcomers. Updated knowledge of job search strategies and employment support resources.
Passionate about creative selling and a solid closer.
Well organized, positive, work well under pressure and a proactive team player.
Advanced user of MS office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project and Access.
Access to a reliable car and be able to work some evenings or weekends.
