Just replaced my fuel filter, I thought I might share the experience so we can save my $$$. Most shop will charge 1/2 hr to 1 hr labor to replace fuel filter(varies on cars) which is about $50 plus in most cases.
Note, dealing with fuel is dangerous, safety first.
1. Locate your fuel pump, disconnect the fuel pump connector. In most cases, it's under the rear seat (some cars have fuel pump relay under the hood, disconnect fuel pump relay will work as well). The reason to disconnect the fuel pump is to relief the pressure in fuel line.
2. There will be some remaining fuel in system. Start the car and wait till it stall to clear remaining fuel in fuel line.
3. Disconnect negative battery terminal - just in case something goes wrong ( any time working on car, it's a good idea to disconnect the negative terminal on battery).
4. Removed fuel filter and replace with new one (when removing the fuel filter, put a cloth or something to avoid fuel spilling). Replace fuel hose if any sign of crack. Also inspect the fuel hose clamp, replace the clamp if necessary
5. Re-install. After reassembly, the 1st time when you start the car, your engine might choke a bit due to lack of fuel. Step on gas gently for couple of second, it will be fine after.
6. Get someone to step the gas pedal for you while you inspect any fuel leaks at hose that you have touched.
Ola - 1/2 hour labor has been saved.
