If you are considering some energy-efficient upgrades or renovations for your home before winter hits, you should be aware that the Government of Canada has renewed the ecoENERGY Retrofit program. That means that homeowners are eligible to receive a grant of up to $5000 to purchase and install energy efficient upgrades to their homes.
Here's how it works: you'll need to 1) register with Natural Resources Canada, 2) get a pre-retrofit evaluation, 3) purchase and install eligible products, and 4) get a post-retrofit evaluation. Eligible home improvements include heating systems, cooling systems, hot water euqipment, insulation, windows/doors/skylights, and more. Your post retrofit evaluation will have to be completed by March 31, 2012.
The Government of Canada also reports that homeowners who have participated in this program to date have saved 20% on their energy bills. If you're considering home improvements, you could end up saving energy costs and get a healthy cheque from the government -- it's worth doing your homework!
