OTTAWA — In a fairly gentle report, the city auditor found nobody who had been very naughty in the city administration in his 2010 work, presenting a set of reports Thursday morning that outlined a ways to tighten administrative procedures, but finding no major cases of corruption or waste. Tighter controls on mileage claims could save the city $106,000, according to one report from auditor general Alain Lalonde. The city may not need to subsidize the Vanier Sugarbush any more, since it forecast a $22,000 surplus. Workers at a south Ottawa social-services centre aren’t living up to the city’s rules on compressed work weeks. And the city-owned Pineview golf course had too-loose rules on petty cash and expenses in 2008 and 2009. The revenue department should continue finding ways to automate its work to save more money — but it’s doing pretty well.
