Usually a booster cable is all you need. You can ask for help to boost your car in emergency. If your car is very old and discharge power all the time and and need boost very often, then you need to buy a product from Canadian Tire. Another option is to enroll CAA, they can help you for roadside emergency.

Booster is the best choice.
Usually a lot of drivers are willing to stop and boost/jump start your car. That happens when people forgot to turn off their lights (new cars have enhanced this feature, i.e. when you remove your key, lights will turn off after n minutes). When you help others to jump start, make sure ENGINE size matches, as a rule of thumb if your engine is 2.0 litre, try not to jump start a car engine size larger that 2.0 litre.

CAA is another option, but card holder can have at most 4 times roadside assistance each year. I use it only when I am on highway.
Again, personal choice.

After jump start, go to Can Tire, buy a new battery and replace it.
