Wording in the City of Ottawa’s purchasing bylaw will be tightened to ensure that any company banned from doing business with the city isn’t able to get contracts under a different name. Gloucester-South Nepean Councillor Steve Desroches proposed a technical amendment to the bylaw, which allows the city treasurer, in consultation with the city clerk and solicitor, to prohibit an “unsatisfactory supplier” — one that has failed to meet contract specifications, terms and conditions or has received health and safety violations — from bidding on future city contracts.
