October 4 Update: Both the $25 unlimited plan and $40 ultimate unlimited plan have been extended. That's great news if you were on the fence or perhaps waiting for your current contract to end!
Originally posted August 15: Good news, students! Mobilicity just announced their new back to school plans, and there are some great deals to be had. Starting today, they have two student plans starting at $25/month, and select handsets have been marked down by up to $200.
First up: a $25/month student plan. This one includes unlimited local calling, unlimited text and picture messaging, caller ID and unlimited data (basically their regular $25 plan but with unlimited data included -- a savings of $10/month). If you need a bit more oomph out of your plan, you can go for their $40 unlimited back to school plan, which offers unlimited local calling, North American long distance, text and picture messaging within Canada and the US, unlimited global text messaging, caller ID, voicemail, unlimited data and more. This plan would normally run you $55/month, so you are saving $15/month and getting a pretty jam-packed plan as well.
Both of these plans are available on any handset. If you are already a Mobilicity customer, you can migrate to either of these plans (provided you're a student, of course). If you're looking for a new handset, several of their phones are marked down as well. The Nexus S is $349 (down from $499), the HTC Panache 4G is $299.99 (down from $499.99), and if you're looking for an inexpensive phone, the LG Wink is $79.99 (down from $99.99).
If you use your phone mainly in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa or Toronto, Mobilicity has some pretty decent plans and add-ons. Unlike most mobile providers, you don't need to commit to a contract with Mobilicity.
