Extreme Forest Makeover: Parliament Hill edition

The slopes of Parliament Hill are overrun with underbrush and invasive plants and need to be cleaned up and reforested in a four-year project, according to documents released by the federal government. Public Works is looking for a contractor to carry out a specific plan for the steep hillsides that surround the Parliament Buildings on three sides, descending to the Ottawa River. It wants a variety of invasive species, from Norway maples to grape vines to periwinkles, taken out, more welcome trees pruned back to health, stumps ground down, and thousands of attractive new seedlings and saplings planted.
