Mr. Robert Wright, Canadian Ambassador to China from 2005 to 2009, will talk about his experiences during those years and about the lessons he learned.
During his appointment in China, Mr. Wright was also Canadian Ambassador to Mongolia. Before his posting in Beijing, Mr. Wright served as Ambassador to Japan from 2001 to 2005, and from 1995 to 2001 he was Deputy Minister for the Department of International Trade. Over his 38 years in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, he had various appointments including Deputy Head of the Canadian Embassy in Washington and Deputy Head of the Canadian Delegation to the WTO Uruguay Round of Trade Negotiations. Outside of the Department, he served as a Director of the Export Development Canada, Chairman of the Canadian Commercial Corporation and Commissioner of the Northern Pipeline Agency. He retired from the public service in 2009.
