City draft budget calls for 2.39-per cent tax hike

The City of Ottawa has tabled a draft 2012 budget that proposes a tax increase of 2.39 per cent — the lowest increase in five years, Mayor Jim Watson announced on Wednesday. Watson said during a lengthy speech to council that 47 full-time positions have been eliminated in the draft budget, which will save the city more than $3.4 million each year.
