有时,犯错是不经意的,但是尽管如此还是要被追究的!
今早,一个同事说,上个星期收到Revenue Canada的信,要她丈夫退1994还多拿的EI,因为他们查到他丈夫护照上当时有出境纪录。同事花了很久才想起当时是出席一个会议当天美国来回。为此,他们被迫退还一天的钱,外加近10年的利息,大约$106。

So what? Sounds like it's quite trivial. But as it's a lawful society, I feel it's better this way. As for your friend, it's one day, but they may try to catch someone who has been absent for quite a while but still collecting EI, which is your and my tax money.

Yes, you are right.Those are ours tax money. But you know, they paid unemployeement insurance already when they were working. And they were eligible to get the money with 4 hours/day on job seeking. Please still think about it, if the government spend your Tax, even more than that to hire someone to review all your income, tax, benifit 5 years, 10 years ago?

What if their mistake wasn't this trivial and was intentional? Do you want it to go unpunished? From what I understand, it is either random checking or your current tax return behavior triggered it.
