A Sûreté du Québec officer has been charged with driving under the influence after a two-car crash in Gatineau sent a woman to hospital. The crash between the officer's unmarked police car and the woman's car happened about midnight on Highway 50 near Montée Paiement, in north-end Gatineau. Both cars were heading east, the SQ said Friday morning. The officer changed lanes and collided with the woman in the lane beside him. The police car ended up in the ditch and the woman's car stayed on the road, but hers was so badly damaged that rescuers needed the Jaws of Life to get her out. Police didn't know the extent of her injuries Friday morning, but said her life was not in danger. The eastbound section of highway stayed closed through the morning rush hour. Police haven't given out the name of either driver. A spokesman for the police said he didn't know whether the officer was on duty at the time.
