OTTAWA — An “eclectic” block of Catherine Street will get a new condo tower if a Toronto developer and Ottawa’s planning department get their way, over the objections of neighbours concerned about parking and shadows. The would-be builder is Brad J. Lamb, a real-estate agent turned condominium developer who’s looking for more projects in Ottawa as another tower of his on Gloucester Street gets underway. This one would replace the three-storey Media Arts Building on Catherine between Bank and O’Connor with a 21-storey condo built in three big layers: a fairly Ottawa-standard T-shaped bottom block of seven storeys, with a wide smooth face on Catherine Street of big windows and grey cladding, a narrower three-storey section of even more glass and white trim, and an 11-storey upper block studded with balconies, plus a mechanical penthouse on top of that.
