握手啊，我也喜欢D的译文。尽管大部分网友说她超出翻译的范围。这里面还有一段故事。我准备把它写入我的《他乡红叶》中的一集：随加拿大总理率领的国家贸易代表团访问中国－（Team Canada) 外事篇。以下只是其中一段故事梗概。
话说我和公司总裁马钉随加拿大国家贸易代表团访问中国。代表由加国总理和九省省长带队，号称 Team Canada（译成中文是“加拿大国家队”）浩浩荡荡开进北京。在北京的一些事，如合作书的签字仪式，在人民大会堂参加2,700人的国宴，与加拿大总理和外长的合影等细节权且按下不表，以免有自卖自夸之嫌。不过有一点想提请各位注意，以免今后上当。人民大会堂的饭菜可真不咋样。咱想中国的主席总理的伙食水平咋也不会低到这种水平。看来专宰老外。因为这宴会是加国总理掏腰包宴谢中国总理和中国各方神圣的。那位如是感兴趣，那天我把国宴菜谱贴到网上。内子看了我带回的菜谱后一撇嘴“就这几道菜啊，我能让你天天吃国宴。”
单表代表团大军转战到上海，大本营扎在浦东的金茂大厦。550套房间全部爆满。房内设施之豪华可以北美的最高级酒店相比。但每晚$270美元的高价也真是人咂舌。据说这还是照顾打了半价。话说马钉的房间内，床头墙上挂着一幅书法横幅。马钉问我上写何意。马钉是位51岁的白人，儒雅幽默，象个学者。我一看，是唐朝崔护的<题都城南庄>
`去年今日此门中，人面桃花相映红。
人面不知何处去，桃花依旧笑春风。`
记得小时听评剧<人面桃花>时听过这个段子。这四句诗是作为净场诗念白的。于是我就添油加醋地把这段浪漫的故事讲了一遍，还指着墙上的书法一句一句地直译了诗的含义。马钉听得入神，还把字幅摄入了镜头。回到加拿大交换照片时，马钉又看到了这幅横幅。真是笔走龙蛇，呼之欲出。不想马钉不但是个温文尔雅，而且是个性情中人。一定要我把这首诗译出来。我开玩笑说“你不是又拿这做凭证，替崔护去找那位姑娘吧。”他说：‘这个故事太感人了，我要把译文粘到照片下讲给我女朋友听。’自参加工作后我有个座右铭，“never say no to your boss”。我说我将尽力。回到办公室后，本职工作都推到一边，也顾不上看投资市场瞬息万变的信息。摊开大部头的中英，英中，英英大字典和电子字典，像小学生赶着完成老师作业一样，一定要赶在下班前完成，e-mail 给马钉。结果费了九牛二虎之力，才最后形成了下面的四句“净场诗”。
后来我贪玩好奇，把我的英文译文贴到一个华语网上。没想引来了三个版本的译文。我今天略去网名，仅以网友B, C, D 代表。我可以透露一下，三位都是人在北美的双语高手（高出我十倍百倍），而且网友C 和D 是女士。 网友C当时在美国是英文专业在学学生，而网友D 是金融专业博士毕业生，在华尔街混事。从英文文体上似乎C版 更适合(她用的是英文歌rhyme的形式），但是我更喜欢D版 的意境。而且她把四句的七绝译成八句英文。可以说是译绝了。

去年今日此门中，人面桃花相映红。
人面不知何处去，桃花依旧笑春风。
Translation and background story （by 他乡客）:
This is a famous poem written by a person Cui Hu over 1000 years ago. There was a young man, a scholar going to the Capital City Xi An to write an exam for a public servant job in the spring (one could become a minister if he got the highest marks at that time). When he passed a farm house, he knocked on the gate to ask for a drink. A beautiful young girl opened the door, greeting him and giving him what he asked for. There were several peach trees blooming with flowers inside the yard. To the young man, the girl’s face was more beautiful than the peach flowers.
One year later at the anniversary day, the young man had become a high ranking government official, who came back to the same house to hope to meet the girl. However, the girl had moved out, and neighbours did not know where the girl’s family went. The young man faced the same peach flowers, and wrote this romantic poem to remember the missing girl. There is a Chinese drama for this story called `A beautiful face like a peach flower`. The meaning of the four sentence poem is as follows. I am not literate enough to translate it into a good poem in English.
