您看出了村长的意思。
但是，我随后在回答村长的时候就说了，有多义词、和近义词之分。
对一个多义词（如President），通过上下文界定，就可以非常清楚知道它的含义。例如：President of America，和President of two gas stations。
而对于近义词，你越界定，它们的含义就越具体，区别就越大，就越不能混用。例如：IT、和High Tech。现在，明明已经有IT和High Tech两个词了，为什么还要抱住“IT”不放？特别是在High Tech领域内部，人们基本上已经放弃了IT的原有的广义的内容。像“你是不是搞IT的”这样的问题，基本上就把软/硬件设计人员都排出在外了。可是我还是经常见到华人这么“广义地”问。不仅显得十分外行，而且也像中关村扛显示器的那么有体力。
确实如此。IT 虽然在字面上原本是 “信息技术”的意思，但现在用来说明工作类型的时候，都仅仅是指与计算机安装和维护有关的工作。各公司内的 IT 部门一般就是计算机维护部门；招聘人的时候，如果说有 IT 方面的空缺，一般也就是说要招计算机（或计算机网）的维护人员。
