Latest News: Shafia jury finds all guilty!

George Krauss, who lives just outside Kingston, has been attending the trial since December.

He said, "We have four lovely women that have a voice and now they can rest in peace."

Crown prosecutor Gerard Laarhuis addresses the media after the verdict. The shouting is Moosa Hadi, the private investigator hired by the Shafia family.

He testified at the trial and maintained they were innocent. Hadi was escorted off the property by police

Laarhuis: “This is a good day for Canadian justice. Our democratic society protects the rights of all.

It’s a very sad day because this jury found that four strong, vivacious and freedom loving women were murdered by their own family in the most troubling of circumstances.”

Statement from Stephen Tanner, Chief of the Kingston Police:

"While I am pleased to see the verdict finding Mohammad Shafia, Hamed Shafia, Tooba Mohammad Yahya guilty of murder, we need also to be reminded of the four innocent lives that were taken, needlessly and senselessly by their own family members.

There is no place in our Canadian society, or anywhere around our world, where a horrendous murder such as this should not be completely and thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. . .

Unfortunately, the Shafia case has highlighted yet another form of Domestic Violence and Domestic Homicide in Canada. We in law enforcement, those involved in the care of children, the court process, judicial review, advocacy groups and in fact all Canadians must learn from this case.

At all time we must do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable in our society."

Honor Killing.

:flaming::flaming::flaming:

“These are four Afghan girls who lost their lives. This is a tragedy.

This absolutely inconceivable for us to think that parents and their son would engage in this sort of activity. It’s heinous and we are trying to come at it. It’s very difficult for Afghans to mobilize. We don’t have a lot of money.

It’s very tough so what we’re trying to do is get media attention and get the message out that the Afghan community here in Canada is not in favour of what’s going on.

They condemn this crime. It’s a heinous, harsh crime. These are not the values that we were really raised with either.”

Irfan Tahiri, Queen’s University student and member of the local Afghan community

Staff Sgt. Chris Scott of the Kingston police: "Even though I'm a 23 year vet, the evidence is shocking as you plow through it. . .

We wanted to solve this crime and I couldn't be more proud of my investigative team."

It is amazing that in this modern world there are still people who believe in 'honour killing'. It goes to show how backward and medieval some muslims are. There is no place for such deed. They treat women like their property and dispose them if they dirty their name. They'd rather have mass murderers and rapists among themselves.
