I've heard that some agencies could actually apply an ERC for you, provided that you pay for your own finger-printing.

最初由 迷迭香 发布 It's 10 years background check, but I don't know if those 10 years must be in Canada. I had to provide all addresses, telephone numbers and whereabouts in the past 10 years...
Most of the jobs in Government need candidates to have "Security Clearances". Does anyone know where and how to apply it? BTW, since I am new in Canada(I just arrived Ottawa last month), shall I need to apply it? Pls provide me any information if u know it. I do appreciate. Thank you. --Jorn
That's NOT true. You cannot get a TOP LEVEL security clearance unless you have a government contract. However you CAN get the secret level clearance as well as ERC (Enhanced Reliability Check) any time if an agency is willing to apply it on your behalf.
It's free of charge, but you will be finger-printed (10 fingers, palms and side of your hands). The trick is that agencies tend to apply security clearance for you only if they find that you are valuable to them. Some even have you fill out the application form but never submit it to CSIS (Canadian Security & Intelligence Service). But keep trying out different agencies, that's the only way.
Agencies must be cleared first in order to apply the same level or lower level of clearance for you. For example, if the agency is cleared for secret level, they can apply secret level or ERC for you, but not top secret level.
Secret level clearance requires 10-year background check. ERC is much easier to obtain. Top-secret requires that you have a government contract first, AND it may take up to 2 years to be cleared.
最初由 伊箫 发布 you can't get the security clearance done by yourself if you don't have a job offer from the goverment.

Do you mean that the ERC is easier than Secret level clearance and Secret level clearance is easier than Top-secret? In other word, the enhanced secret clearance is the lowest level?
I asked that is because I have been thought that the Enhanced Secret Clearance is in the middle and there is another level(secret clearance) lower than it(Enhanced...).
