High gas prices, government incentives and the ease of plugging in, instead of fueling up, has driven up the demand for all types of electric vehicles:

The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Coupe is available starting under $27,000. It is compact and reliable, and a single battery charge will take you more than 138 kilometres. The 55 kW electric motor and lithium-ion battery with a 17.6 kWh capacity, is cleverly housed under the vehicle floor so you can have optimum space and enjoy full comfort and spaciousness of the smart for two.
Nissan Leaf (BEV)
At just under $32,000, the Nissan Leaf is 100 per cent electric, and offers you 100 per cent freedom from the gas pump. It is powered exclusively by an advanced lithium-ion battery that you can charge at home or at a local public charging station. Never again will you have to have pricey oil changes and tune-ups, and with fewer moving parts, the Nissan Leaf is ultra low maintenance.
