That's what I love about Canada, that's what makes Canada one of the best country in the world!
I love my homeland China because that's where I come from, but that doesn't mean everything about it is right.
Patriotism is not everything....how about free will? democracy? understanding? tolerant?

Democracy is not everything!

To me democracy makes more sense than patriotism.
Look at all of the wars in the world, which one isn't in the name of Patriotism?

This is non-sense. Paul Martin supported the American invasion in Iraq. He is more pro-US than our former PM Brian Mulroney. G. Bush is seeing Martin in his oval office next week while he refused to meet Chretien at all!

To me democracy makes more sense than patriotism.

Democracy and patriotism are not mutually exclusive. Look at the Americans, have you found another people any more patriotic? They have more flags waiving in their country than any others. Heck, they even passed a law called Patriot Act.

Totally agreed! You just refuted your own statement above, my friend.

Look at all of the wars in the world, which one isn't in the name of Patriotism?

I will name you some wars that were not started because of patriotism:
1) US invasion of Iraq - fight for control of oil
2) US invasion of Afghanistan - fight terrorism
3) US invasion of Vietnam - fight of idiologies
4) US invasion of Korea - fight of idiologies.
etc. etc...

Actually most of the wars had nothing to do with patriotism, mostly with either religions or control of wealth (in the name of demacrcies, etc).

We call that an Utopia, or wait, is it communism?;)

Guys, have you ever thought that perhaps the Chinese government really wanted 达赖 to meet with Martin? By putting out stern warnings last week pretty much pushed Martin into a corner of no backing off without looking like a lame duck. If Chinese government really wants to get something done, it always does it behind closed doors.

So what does the meeting get China? China now has even more reasons to brand 达赖 as a separatist and therefore, notworthy of negotiating with. 达赖 will have no chance at all ever returning to Tibet because the Chinese government has more evidences (the meeting with foreign heads)that 达赖 has a political agenda. The danger for the Chinese government if 达赖 ever returns to Tibet is that he would always stir up the pot from within. This could be really dangerous for the stabilities of the region.

Oh, my God! you don't read news and certainly don't read Martin's words. He said himself he doesn't support the war-from his own mouth! Don't support the war and maintaining friendship and trade with U.S are two different things!!! Canada doesn't messed these two! -Got it! Just like China, it doesn't support the war but it still do business with China.

You really don't understand what I was saying.
I did not say Democracy and patriotism are mutually exclusive. They certainly aren't. But sometimes, so called "Patriotism" does get into the way of democracy. And I certainly agreed that the American is very patriotic. That's exactly my point!!!! Bush used and promoted and twisted it to his advance his own interestes!

Man! do you really know/understand exactly what this phase mean " IN THE NAME OF" if you really do you won't argue with me.

oh, man! have you ever heard or Bush said" we invaded Iraq to fight for control of oil" ???? No, he basically telling the American people"we rid of the evil in the world to make America a safe place...bla..bla.."
Why U.S fight for ideologies???-because they think their ideology is the best in the whole wild world!!!- in other word-blinded/overheated patriotism!

you are arguing for the sake of arguing.
