I asked several piano dealers and tried myself, feels Perl River is not as good as Sammick (I only tried grand piano, not upright). Ottawa pianos used to carry Per River, but after some bad feedback, they switched to Samick. That's their sales told me.

The Costco's Suziki is crap. I tried myself. Keys are too light, sounds are unreal. The best digital pianos are Roland and Technics (also about 2.5-3k).

好象4千连Yamaha的新琴都有，只是音色和触感不能有什么要求。这个价位想买好一些的恐怕还是老琴，实际上店里翻新过的和新琴也差不多。

My personal experience. High end digital piano (the ones with "Hammer action", such as "roland" or "technics"; not "weighted key", such as casio or yamaha）is better than low end upright piano, such as Strauss or Perl River.
There are two most imprtant things for piano: touchs and action of keys, and the quanlity of sound. My digital piano's key action feels much similar to grand pinao (but of course not as good as). And since the sound are electronic samples, you don't have to tune it, and it sounds generally good all the time.
It also depends on what level the player is at. For beginner or intermidate level, or the purpose for learning is play "Fur Elise" or "Cannon", digital piano for $3k should be good enough, and you can always get a better one later. If you play Chopin or even Liszt, grand will worth it. The diffenece of touches won't affect beginner's at all, since their problem is to get the form and cordination right.

I agree. That happened to my son whom I bought a digital piano first. Don't want to put down too much without knowing whether he likes or not. Later turned out that he really likes piano and started to complain about the difference of our digital piano and the mechanical piano at lesson place, so I bought a good upright.

One more thing, don't trust what the dealer tell you. They all trying to push the brand they carry, and make the other brands sounds bad. That's their job.
It's better to get someone who can play or knows about piano, play on it to tell the difference.

最好还是买新的。对比一下，翻修的和新的还是很不一样

昨天在中国的网站上查了一下珠江牌子的钢琴。基本价格是
１１８型的８０００元，１２５Ｍ１的１２０００元，１３０型的１５０００元。如果合成加元的话分别是$１１８８, $1800, 和$2230。国内的人可以用我们三分之一的价格享受同样的东东。

最后本人在Lauzon Music Center Ltd 买了一台珠江牌upright（１１８厘米）的钢琴。非常满意。价格是$3800。音质和yamaha的没什么差别（调琴师说的）。
