I think you have to maintain the granite countertop every year to keep it last longer in nice looking.
If you don't plan to use it for long, I think it's good investment and home buyers love them. However, my parent's home has one being used in kitchen (Chinese cooking style) for more than 15 yrs and it now looks really ugly, but it seems wasteful to replace it.
There are also some alternatives such as quartz etc.. However, I think nice kitchen cabinet is more attractive than just a nice countertop.
