个人意见: 如果你经常斩骨头, 那就绝对不值. 而且那东西, 冬天摸着特别凉... 偶不是很喜欢, 所以偶是不会花钱去upgrade这东西的.

very good. maintance is easy. the laminate countertop is plastic. It is very easy to get burned. You only can replace the whole thing or live with it. It also increase the value of the house.

给你个建议， 要求工人在GRANITE的底下加块木板， 可以减少GRANITE的受力， 这样你剁骨头就没有问题了。

GRANITE本身是很坚固的， 只是担心内部有小裂缝，局部受力不好。所以要加块木板。

我家的厨房就是GRANITE countertop， 不用维护的。

Yes there's some radioactive elements associated with all kinds of rock, but the amount is so negligible... Would you worry a lot when you use the microwave oven?

I think you have to maintain the granite countertop every year to keep it last longer in nice looking.

If you don't plan to use it for long, I think it's good investment and home buyers love them. However, my parent's home has one being used in kitchen (Chinese cooking style) for more than 15 yrs and it now looks really ugly, but it seems wasteful to replace it.

There are also some alternatives such as quartz etc.. However, I think nice kitchen cabinet is more attractive than just a nice countertop.

granite is a natural stone. So it needs to be sealed to provent from stain. reseal should be done every few years. I guess you can repolish it to make it looks good again.
quartz or called SILESTONE is man made stone. It is harder than granite and stainless. It is most expensive.

But when you put them side by side I was alway attracted by the beauty of granite.

easiest way to check if you need resealing is put a cup of cold water on the top and see if the condensation goes away fast, which means the "micro-structures" are exposed.
but, man, it definitely adds the value of our house.
