请教:有关孩子选择在Colonel By school上高中的一些观点

Colonel By Secondary School

I have the same question. My child is accepted by this school for the IB program. The problem is we live in west. Who knows what's the benefit of this high school and IB program. I know some very good high schools have some advantages. For example, if you are in a good school, your average score is lower than other school student, the university still accept this one who come from good school. Specially, you apply famous university like Ivy college. Who knows more information, please share your opinion with us. We appreciate very much.

But do remember some kids in IB program do fail to get an IB diploma.

upstairs Master: Thank you for your information. As you say IB program gernarelly speak is very good , it has a lot of advantages for a child to apply a top university. But how good is Colonel By Secondary School IB program? Do they have a lot of student go to America Ivy college ? I don't have the data.

The private school Ashburry college ( in rockcliffe area) has IB program too. It truly has some students go the Ivy college. But this school tuition is 13,000 a year.

I 'm in Ottawa only a few month. I don't know how to chose a high school for kids. I worry it is worth going there to study. Kids will spend 3 hours on the bus. I think in the 3 hours they can do a lot of activist.They are not study machine.They need time to do volunteer job, participate sport contest, fund raising.... Do you or your friend have kids in Colonel By Secondary School? Do you know how many IB kids go to top university?

that is what makes an ib student stand out: participating in activties showing they are caring responsible students and at the same time still doing great academic work

you do not want a bookwarm in your family


it is up to you to put the whole world on your child's shoulder

but it is up to your child to show he or she can carry the world with him or her.

It is said Colonel By Secondary School the third best high school in Canada. There are only two schools 'IB are supported by Government funds in Ottawa. One is Colonel By Secondary School, one is a French school. There are 2 private schools run IB too, but you have to pay 13000 a year.

lisgar focus on Talent student program. If you are not talent student, it is not worth to go from far far away.

说点个人看法，

1. 07年Colonel By 高中在OTTAWA是排第一的；

2. IB 是很好的program，好像Colonel By 是本市公立学校唯一有IB的；

3. IB难度比较高，做义工要求的时间也比较多。如果学生能力强，愿意接受挑战，为进入名牌大学做准备是很好的途径；

4. 如果学生能力有限，高中阶段不能承受过大的压力，最好就不要考虑IB。因为加拿大大学录取时，12年级的分数是硬指标，有些竞争比较大的专业，要求的达到一定的分数底线，不管上的是什么课，IB，AP，Gifted，还是一般的课。在达到硬指标的前提下，同样的分数，那些难度高的课程会更具有竞争力。

5. 交通时间过长，会增加学生更多负担，是否值得，需要考虑学生的承受能力，学习动力等各方面因素考虑。

上常青藤，肯定家长和孩子脸上有光。但是谁发展得更好，也不是说常青藤就管你一辈子的。

只要有一定的能力，大学只是个陪衬。成功还是要看个人的。尤其北美这个地方。真是比尔盖茨，乔布斯啥的，就上卡尔顿毕业出来也会是个人物的。如果只是一个天资一般的孩子，就算哈佛出来，那不过如此而已。

咱们都是过来人，并不是好学校教的有多好，学校并没有给个人太多的东西，而是上好学校的人总体上素质（主要是学业方面）不错，都聚在好学校所以显得好学校才好。

咱们为啥到北美来，就是图个生活轻松，没有压力。因为这里就算是最底层，也不愁没饭吃。

这里上中小学的孩子们只要大学毕业，一般都可以找个白领，不像国内，大学生泛滥。有份说得过去的工作，happy一些，比啥都强。

孩子天资好，那么就严格要求一下，天资一般，就要不必太push。不管怎样，都应该要happy。就像楼主的名字一样：快乐最重要。
