Sorry, I have seen some negative impact. Here is what I am based on:

(1) 1000 Wireless people in Ottawa, only 500 will stay based on media like Ottawa Citizen and Yahoo! Canada.
(2) This is the best deal that Nortel could get to sell its product lines. So in the coming weeks, months not quarters, there will be higher percentage (> 50%) laid off in other divisions if they are successful sold out.

I hope I am wrong...

You are right, 50%+ chance to survive for CDMA&LTE folks.

说加拿大有以偏盖全之嫌。但曾有三分之一劳动力为北电工作的渥太华，绝对是这种文化的延伸。信不信由你，中国移民在这种地方想得到公平对待要付出加倍的代价，非常不值 - 我以前不太信，现在信。

加拿大别的城市会不会好些，不得而知。一叶知秋，我看不值得耽误那功夫。

Ten years ago, 谁曾想到有今天: 颠倒过来了, Ottawa官僚乞求和中国做生意.

不好说是文化差，是精神差。

再低的价格， 也低不过国内毕业生。 找人搞销售，市场还可以理解。:blink:

此言差矣。要比较只能在同行业中比较。看一看cisco,华为，alctel, nokia,Motorola 等公司都没损失这么多。有的还盈利。那么说明ＮＴ的确有问题。

我们内部员工都知道, 当时北电的问题, 至少有以下几点：
1. 上头方向错误。当年北电光纤宇宙第一, 但正确的事, 错误的时间。当时没有smart phones, 也没有tiktok, FB...没流量, 技术又太超前, 自然销售不可持续；
2. 后来搞无线, 又押宝WiMax, 现在有几个人还知道这个技术？上10亿的投资就打了水漂；
3. OPC项目, 就是光switch, 实验室里还高持一个牌子, 上书“Beat Cisco”, 项目失败, 又是数十亿没了；
4. 管理是个很大的问题。当年外面流行这么一个说法：思科一人指挥, 九人划船; 北电八人指挥, 只有两人划船。
5. 一系列盲目收购, 仅举一例, Clarify, 花了22亿买来, 过了几年, 2千万卖掉！
6. 效率太低。一个例子, 客户要求, 设备启动时, 显示的北电Logo要换成运营商的, 就这么一个简单事, 整了半年没搞定
7. 在3G上, 中国和欧洲联手支持的标准, 打败了美国的标准, 结果就是北美的电信巨头一个个倒下, 包括北电

所以, 把失败原因归于其他, 就是典型的推责, 只能骗些外行人。
