If you have achievements in academic world, it is probably not a bad idea to take the position and try to contribute. There will be difficulties but you have the advantage of bringing the university to the world.

People in China probably visit here often. However, short-term visits normally don't really help them on how academic works in Western countries. So, you can do a lot of work here.

There are many good videos under this link: http://tv.sohu.com/s2010/ds/#pageHot - on many Chinese who experienced enormous personal misfortune but made huge contributions to China's modernization. An example is Xie Xi De of former Fudan University.

So, you do need a sense of history to make the jump. If material consideration is everything, you may feel very disappointed once your expectation is not met ...

国内要的是全能型的人：就是研究成果要棒，而且人际关系处理能力或者说是活动能力要强，两手都要硬，缺一不可。

另外，你是要回去若干年再回加拿大养老那样的话，多半不能指望国内退休金来这里养老，就得在国内捞足加拿大养老资本才行。

如果就打算在国内养老，要问问自已能够接受国内的空气、食品安全否？毕竟已经在这里生活了14年...

It is a bit unusual that you come here to ask for public opinions. There must be something that is bothering you ...

If you are already well off, have no family worries and want to do something in China, it is probably a good idea to take the position. The primary goal is to do things and put all material considerations on the side.

If you still have lingering worries on positions, rewards etc, then it is a tough decision. You need to work for sometime for material returns as a professor or division chief. In general, these positions are not for quick profit and you need to work relationships and make actual contributions.

Hope you make the most sensible decision for yourself. Again, you probably should think inward very hard why you come here for public opinions. This probably will reveal what your main concerns are ...

泛泛地说, 真正的学术带头人那个位置, 有多少人眼睛都盯着呢, 那叫卡位. 因为在那个位置上, 就象CCTV的播音员, 放一XX都照红. 不是俺瞧不起海外华人, 你们要去抢,还真得好好编编故事,土鳖们都红着眼呢...
