您老拽古诗词, 这不诚心难为翻译吗?
复旦大学外文学院翻译系主任何刚强教授表示，昨天温总理的记者招待会上，即席翻译应当说是做得非常出色的，临场能发挥到这样的水平绝不是一件容易的事。中国古诗文的口译在这种场合，更显情势的急迫紧张，几乎是没有时间来推敲思考的，只能给出一个大概的(主要的)意思。
我将在最后一年“守职而不废，处义而不回”，永远和人民在一起。
In my last year in office, I will not waiver and carry outmy duties, and will remain true tomy convic-tion,I will always be with the people.
当然，作为旁听者，尤其是作为事后诸葛亮，是完全可以对这类译文发表一些不同的看法。而中国古典诗文在译成英文的时候，也往往不止有一种译法，因为不同译者理解的角度与英语水准都会存在差异。又如“入则恳恳以尽忠，出则谦谦以自诲。 ”这一句，当场的翻译是这样的：
Officials should serve as loyalas they can conscientiously when they are in office and engage in modest self-reflection when their terms end.
这样译大意也基本表达出来了。但是如果让何教授译，他可能会换一种说法：
Once made in a responsible position, an official should do every-thing loyal to the country (or to thepeople), andwhen his terms end, heshould give a self-assessment (selfcriticism) in a humble manner.
再如：“知我罪我，其惟春秋。 ”当场的翻译是：
There are people who will appreciate what I have done butthere are also people who will criticize me,Ultimately,history will have the final say.
这样的翻译虽然极有解释性味道，但总的意思并没有发生偏离。如果要讲究一点的话，何教授觉得还可以这样译：
What I have done may be ap-preciated and criticized by the peo-ple, yet ultimately history will give me a fair assessment ( or judgment)
何教授不太同意 “苟利国家生死以，岂因祸福避趋之”的现场翻译
In line with the conviction that Iwill do whatever it takes to serve my country even at the costofmy own life,regardless of fortune or misfortune to myself.
似乎应改成下面的行文可能更好些：
If a man is willing to sacrifice his life for the interests of his country, he will never mind things concerning his personal fortunes and misfortunes.
何教授指出，古文的翻译主要是理解到位，然后是英文要有比较高的水准，如果英文写作水平不高，译出来的东西肯定是不能让人消受的。
