OTTAWA — A woman with cancer won’t be going to jail for a Ponzi scheme that defrauded friends, relatives and colleagues of $1.6 million over three years. Michelle Longchamps was given a conditional sentence Wednesday of two years less a day, followed by three years’ probation after pleading guilty more than a year ago to 11 counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of forgery, and one count each of laundering the proceeds of crime and fraud under $5,000.
