Ottawa researchers challenge Health Canada’s move to bring back suspended drug

OTTAWA — A team of Ottawa researchers has taken the unusual step of calling into question Health Canada’s decision to allow a controversial drug back onto the market five years after it was withdrawn because of concerns it increased death rates. The heart-surgery drug, known as aprotinin, is currently off the market in the United States, but has been reintroduced in Canada and Europe.
