Canada’s current system of hockey helmet testing tells consumers little about the equipment’s ability to guard against concussions, a University of Ottawa researcher says. U of O physiology professor Blaine Hoshizaki said the problem is that helmets are now assessed only for how well they guard against the effects of linear acceleration, which is the force a player experiences, for instance, when his head hits the ice.
