Inner-city wards should have demolition control: City staff

OTTAWA — People wanting to demolish a home without a replacement building in mind should have to seek special approval in central wards, but not a wider area of the entire former City of Ottawa, a report says. The inner areas are where such a rule makes the most sense, staff say in a report to council’s planning committee. The report also recommends that staff be allowed to provide demolition approvals in many of those situations, rather than every application being pushed through city council.
