OTTAWA — A young man described how he was left feeling like he had “lost” and was “defeated” after learning that he had contracted HIV after unprotected sex with a man now on trial accused of trying to kill him. The now-20-year-old university student was just 17 when, he said, he had sex with Steven Paul Boone nine times over a weeklong period at the end of January and beginning of February 2010. By April, he learned he had contracted the disease.
