Ogilvy’s demolition could start next week

OTTAWA — Workers will start demolishing the derelict Ogilvy’s building on Rideau Street next week, hoping to get its facade off and preserved before winter, architect Barry Padolsky told city council’s planning committee Tuesday. Councillors agreed that Cadillac Fairview Corp., the corporate parent of the Rideau Centre shopping mall that’s planning to expand into the former department store at Rideau and Nicholas, can go to work on the old building even though it doesn’t have a completed plan for the expansion. City council is to sign off finally on Wednesday.
