美国总统奥巴马欲提名美国驻联合国大使赖斯为下任国务卿，却遭到资深共和党议员连署反对，赖斯27日特别与包括麦凯恩在内的三名资深共和党参议员会面，针对她在驻班加西领事馆遇袭事件的发言提出解释。

　　美国总统奥巴马：“如果参议员麦凯恩和参议员格林厄姆想要找赖斯麻烦，他们应该来找我。”

　　奥巴马力挺赖斯在驻班西领事馆遇袭事件的发言，白宫人士也认为提名赖斯出任国务卿，奥巴马心意已决，为了厘清疑虑，赖斯主动提出会面要求，并且在周二和资深共和党参议员麦凯恩、格林厄姆以及阿约特在国会举行闭门会议。不过会议过后三个人却都表示他们心中的疑虑更多了，让赖斯的国务卿之路似乎备受阻碍，而希拉里在去留之间，如何完成国会的调查，也备受关注。

　　国务院发言人纽兰：“我们持续向国会提供有用的文件，我们也持续表达我们的期望，也就是在调查报告完成后希拉里会与国会磋商合作的形式。”

　　仅管希拉里的去留时程仍未定，不过纽兰表示在驻班加西领事馆遇袭事件上，希拉里仍会和国会密切合作，完成调查报告。
