With the new year quickly approaching, it’s time to start sharpening those skates. If history repeats itself, the Rideau Canal Skateway could be open by mid-January. Last season, the canal opened on Jan, 13. In 2011, it opened on Jan. 8 and in 2010 the first skaters hit the ice on Jan. 14.
