In December, Ottawa’s Operation Red Nose helped bring more than 760 people home safely and raised thousands of dollars for the Boys and Girls Club, according to the volunteer service. Nearly 600 people came forward as volunteers during the designated-driver service’s second season in Ottawa, compared with 383 in 2011. The Ottawa group is a chapter of the organization Opération Nez Rouge, which started in Québec in 1984.
