Sylvain Champoux - Instructor
Sylvain began racing in 1980 and since that time has competed in Karting, Formula cars (F1600 & F2000), and Touring cars (Mustang GT). After 9 years of competitive racing, Sylvain began instructing in 1989. Since that time he has worked as a driving instructor for many notable driving schools such as BMW Driver Training, Skip Barber Racing School, Labatt Road Scholarship program, Bäsi Autosport, Adrenaline Autosport, Spénard Marketing, and many more. When not instructing driving techniques, Sylvain has worked as a test driver, and has performed ride and drive programs for several automotive manufacturers. Sylvain has been an Instructor with BMW Driver Training since the program's Canadian launch in 2001.
Jean-François Dumoulin - Instructor
Jean-François began racing at a very young age, and over the years has competed in various racing series such as the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series, Toronto Molson Indy, Vancouver Molson Indy, 1998 Canadian Grand Prix, Formula 1600, and many more. Jean-François is also the 2004 24 Hours of Daytona champion. Jean-François began instructing in 1993 at the Jim Russell Racing School where he had been working as the lead mechanic. Since that time, Jean-François has been a driving instructor for many notable driving schools such as Skip Barber, Ferrari, Porsche, Autosport Bäsi, and BMW Driver Training.Jean-François has been an Instructor with BMW Driver Training since 2003.

Training Content
座椅调节
- 离合器/刹车/油门踩到底之后腿一定要带弯曲的,绝对不能是直的。(事故时如果腿伸直了,impact force传上来会产生:shattered ankle, or broken knee/hip)
- 前胸跟方向盘要有至少12inch的距离(防airbag打死人)
- 双手搭在方向盘12o'clock的位置的时候应该是手腕的刚好超过方向盘一点点
- 双手位置应该是9-3 o'clock而不是10-2 o'clock
- 任何时候做任何动作,比方说左右转方向盘,或者shoulder check, 肩胛骨都应该不离开靠背,应该一直靠着
- 保险带要拉紧,穿着大衣的时候下面那个带子要拉紧,不然impact的时候人会往前冲,seat belt pre-tensioner就木有任何作用了。
- 左右后视镜跟中间的后视镜的视野不应该重叠
General Training
- 加速时 头轻屁股重
- 刹车时 头重屁股轻
- Tires always give you 100% traction according to the current road conditions, but 100% of lesser (in bad condition) is still less. Drive according to traction conditions, not speed limits.
- AWD: AWD is NOT safer, AWD only means we'll need a longer rope to pull a car out of the ditch.
- AWD = accelerate faster, not stop faster, not more traction in corners.
- Understeer/推头的时候要收油,不要steer more, 要收一点角度,regain traction
- Oversteer/甩屁股的时候要收油,counter-steer (steer into the slide)
- LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO
- 最快的刹车动作是threshold braking (for racing drivers). 最停不住的braking是pump brakes. 无论你的车有没有ABS, 对于普通人来说最effective的braking就是一脚踩到底。
- 不是每个车的ABS都一样。ABS每秒刹/松动作越快越好,比方说,BMW 是25modulation/s, 而某些车只有8/s. ABS也分是否可以四个轮子independent控制。
- BMW的traction control可以分别控制四个轮子,可以利用坦克履带的效果停一边的所有的轮子把车方向矫正
个人体验:
- 按要求的坐姿说实话不是很舒服(教练给调节的),胳膊放在9/3相当弯曲,不是很习惯。我习惯稍微再往后一点,但是腿必须保持弯曲
- 有ABS Traction control的时候在skid pad上可以一脚踩到底。。。dashboard狂闪各种DSC/DTC的灯然后车慢慢悠悠的往前走,根本不会侧滑。6k rpm dump clutch都没用,滑一下发动机就不给油了
- 他们这车机器盖下啊面有个开关(改装的),可以关掉所有的电脑控制,连ABS都没有。这时候真的是随便一脚刹车踩多了就失控了。ABS+traction control真是个好东西
- moose test 完全可以仰仗ABS能力。一脚踩到底,steer+stop. 没有ABS的时候除了我没有一个人不是把cone撞飞20米的。 threshold braking还是很给力的
- reverse 180太欢乐,就跟canada's worst driver一样,各种撞飞cone
- 看哪儿去哪儿。moose test左边举旗的话要躲右边的道。有几次累了反应慢了一拍,看了一眼moose test的旗子(正确方法是trust peripheral vision 而不是看一眼旗子),直接就冲着举旗的人去了
- 看哪儿去哪儿。skid pad看着走的方向就会skid过去。Philippe坐副驾驶指点我的时候太紧张了(毕竟人家是名人啊),看了一眼guardrail 差点就上去了
- AWD/RWD的车我们是换着开的。就像Philippe教的,AWD照样停不住。RWD如果油门给多了更容易失控/侧滑,但是在弯道/刹车/控制方面RWD更敏捷一点。AWD在昨天100%的冰面上加速的确很给力,但是也的确让每个人都开的更快,撞飞了更多的cone
- 宝马自动车失控360之后会跳到N而不是熄火
最后的autocross木有让大家失望,拿了第一:smokin:, 奖品是K2滑雪风镜,with optics by Carl Zeiss
