50th Anniversary of the Largest Tulip Festival in the World Millions of tulips will blossom in May of 2002 in Canada's scenic Capital Region creating an exotic mosaic of colour and beauty.
The Tulip Capital of North America will spring to life with colourful floral displays lining the beautiful Rideau Canal and Dows Lake.
Malak Karsh, the founder of the Canadian Tulip Festival and the man who made Ottawa synonymous with tulips through his incredible photography, serves as the Honorary President of the 50th Anniversary.
NEW in 2002, the Festival will expand by one week - running from May 3 to 20.

300,000 Tulips at Commissioners Park
Commissioners Park features The Tulip CafÈ with Breakfast and Lunch in the Tulips, and the Shoppers Drug Mart Sing-Along senior's entertainment. The National Capital Commission presents Tulip Legacy .

In 2002 from May 3-20, the Canadian Tulip Festival celebrates its 50th Anniversary with the creation of Tulipmania throughout the new Cities of Ottawa and Gatineau.
Tulipmania Exhibition
Exciting new, spectacular artistic tulip displays designed and built by Canadian artists and sponsored by VIA Rail Canada.
Tulipmania Concerts
Featuring major-performing artists from Canada.
50th Anniversary Community Tulip Garden
260 five-foot artistic tulips painted by local artists on display at Festival Plaza in front of the new City of Ottawa's City Hall.
World Tulip Summit
The foremost international experts on tulips in a three day symposium of workshops, presentations, seminars and events May 9 to 11.
Tulip Encounter,
A series of workshops, seminars and book signings.
Tulip Explosion!
The Canadian Tulip Festival's new floral design and flower show site at Maison du Citoyen, Gatineau, will feature floral designs by international, Canadian, Ottawa and Gatineau floral designers.
50th Anniversary Tulip Ball
At the new l'Hotel Hilton du Lac Leamy - May 4, 2002, the Tulip Ball will feature the International Floral Gown Competition.
Tulip Memories
Photos and other memorabilia looking back at the 50 years of the Festival will be on display at Ottawa and Gatineau City Halls and Tulip Art throughout the Festival venues.
An International Friendship Experience
The Dutch people gave 100,000 tulip bulbs to Canadians as a token of thanks for sheltering their royal family during the Second World War and the role our soldiers played in the liberation of Holland. The Canadian Tulip Festival maintains the spirit of goodwill by celebrating friendship through flowers at the International Tulip Friendship Village at Major's Hill Park.
The Princess Margriet Dutch CafÈ, the Royal Oak British Pub, Turkish Bazaar and the Japan Pavilion will share their countries' culture. France will be represented with the Battle of the Flowers of the City of Nice. Our United States friendship partner will be the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
Concert Series
Eleven nights of the Ottawa Citizen Concert Series on the CS CO-OP Main Stage presented by Rogers Television features some of Canada's most popular entertainers.

Artisans in the Park
The Canadian Tulip Festival is returning its much-loved artisans' fairs of yesteryears with a mammoth Artisans in the Park event featuring up to 125 artisans under one tent.
What's A Party Without Kids?
Shoppers Drug Mart Kid Zone features children's entertainment, arts and crafts, face painting, live shows and favourite activities.
Each weekend, Shoppers Drug Mart presents nationally recognized family entertainers on the CS CO-OP Main Stage.
Gateway Tulip Parade
The South Dundas Chamber of Commerce is planning another Gateway Tulip Parade from Morrisburg to Major's Hill Park along the 80 km route of Bank Street. Up to 30 community floats are expected in the parade.
Parade of Lights
The Casino de Hull Parade of Lights is a night-time procession of creatively illuminated vessels climaxed by a low-level fireworks display in the middle of the lake. Saturday, May 18, shortly after 8 p.m. on Dows Lake.
Flotilla on the Rideau Canal
The Clarica Flotilla features boats of all varieties, from cruisers to houseboats, entertaining 100,000 people along the canal. Sunday of the Victoria Day long weekend, May 19, 2002, departing Dows Lake at 1:00 p.m
Tulip Route
From May 3 to 20, the Tulip Route will run from Canada Agriculture Museum in Ottawa to the Casino de Hull in Gatineau. There are more than 20 official sites including world-class museums and attractions as well as key shopping areas. The free OC Transpo Tulip Shuttle will operate on the three weekends of the Festival.
