[问题]有谁在这里考或者准备Chartered Accountant的啊?!

CA designation requires that you article with an accouting firm. As an articling student, you can write your qualification exam, and if you pass it, you can write your uniform final exam. If you are good, you can obtain your designation within two years.

There are two other accounting designaitons that don't require articling. They are CGA and CMA. For CGA, you need a university degree, and you need to take and pass certain courses specified by the CGA association. At the end, you write a final comprehensive exam with CGA association, then you get your CGA.

CGA does need working experience. And it consists of at least one year in intermedia position and one year in senior position. After finishing your PACE level in CGA you get only 3 years left to fulfill the working experiences. If you failed, you're forced to re-entry their program

That is why CGA recommending you to work in a finance/Accounting environment, while you complete level 3 of study.

In terms of the intermediate and senior level, there is a lot of grey areas about this requirement, so don't worry too much about this. Bottom line is that you need to get an accounting job before you finish all your CGA studies.

CGA will ask students to fill in a questionaire, in which they will check off the accounting functions they have experiences with. It's not very strict, and so don't worry about the junior and senior experiences. As long as you are working an accounting related job, you will have a good chance to meet the practical experience criteria.

If you have taken some accounting courses in a university, CGA will grant you credits for them. The best thing to do is to get an evaluation by the CGA. They will tell you how many courses you have to take and which courses you don't need to take.

What is the main difference between CA and CGA in terms of work/career?

What is the main difference between CA and CGA in terms of work/career?

CA enjoys more power and enfluence in the accounting world. For example, most accounting rules in the CICA handbook, which is the law book for accountants, were set by CA's. Also, in most of the provinces, only CA's can sign audit reports. However, this is changing, CGA's in some provinces are sharing these privileges. For example, CGA's in Ontario can now sign audit reports.

In terms of accounting practices, CA firms are mostly engaged in auditing services. In terms of technical knowledge, CGA's have the most training in taxation, which is a good area to get into.

Finally, as far as career is concerned, any accounting designations will take you far. Both CA's and CGA's can open accounting firms. Both CA's and CGA's can work in a variety of sectors such as industries, accounting firms and governments.

In terms of income potential, CA's need to slave for many years to make decent money. Those few who climb to the senior levels can reach 100,000. Those very few (around 2% of the accountant population) can make partners and they become rich. On the other hand, Most experienced CGA's in Canada make over 60,000, but those who make to the controller or vice president positions make over 100,000.

Those who are more familiar with the accounting profession, please correct my mistakes, if you see any.

In principal, CA is still more prestigeous, and the leader in accounting world (despite I am in a CGA program :blowzy: ).

Firms such as KPMG, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young etc. are still dominated by the CAs. In Canada, CGA is a good choice, because CGA is expanding and eventually they will have the same authority as CAs in Canada.

In terms how much money would you be making? That is dicfficult to say. Haoren1 has given us some very solid statistics on how much would an accountant make in Canada. Nevertheless, it is still up to you to make the best of your designation. For example: the director of finance in my company who makes 100K and he is a CA from Brazil.

Good luck.

BTW, Go CGA Go
