A watered-down version of the rebate program for city election campaign contributions will survive into 2014, despite Mayor Jim Watson’s earlier effort to kill it entirely. The city has had the program for three elections, with the idea that giving contributors publicly funded partial rebates on contributions to civic campaigns will encourage people to get involved and also water down the influence of corporations and unions, which aren’t eligible for the rebates.
