Ottawa – Starting Wednesday, October 23, traffic on Rideau Street will shift from the south side of the street to the north side, between Charlotte Street and just east of Chapel Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of the street and businesses will remain open.
Traffic will continue to be maintained in the westbound direction only. This will be in effect until December 20, 2013.
In addition, Charlotte Street will be closed to southbound traffic from Rideau Street to Besserer Street until November 12, 2013. Northbound traffic on Charlotte will be maintained and southbound traffic will be detoured to Chapel Street.
Charlotte Street on the north side of Rideau Street will re-open, permitting northbound through traffic on Charlotte as well eastbound and westbound turns onto Rideau Street.
The Rideau Street Renewal – Phase II project is a $15.6 million initiative that will improve streetscaping and safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. It will also replace the existing combined sewer system with independent storm and sanitary sewers in support of the Ottawa River Action Plan, our city’s commitment to protect the health of the Ottawa River and provide cleaner water, safer beaches and a better environment. For more information, visitottawa.ca.
The Rideau Street Renewal is an Ottawa on the Move project. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
