Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson will be joined by City Manager Kent Kirkpatrick and conference emcee Jody Mitic, a runner-up of the first season of Amazing Race Canada, to host the tenth annual AccessAbility Day in Ottawa, in conjunction with National Housing Day and the U.N. International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Mayor Watson will proclaim AccessAbility Day in Ottawa at the opening ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m.

Date: Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Opening Ceremonystarts at 9:30 a.m. and panel discussions are scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m.

Location: City Hall, Andrew Haydon Hall (Council Chamber), 110 Laurier Avenue West

The theme of this year’s conference is, Creating Accessible Housing for All, and the program will include a not-to-be missed introduction by Jody Mitic, the Canadian soldier and local celebrity who suffered life changing injuries in Afghanistan in 2007 and is now a Soldier On ambassador and volunteer fund-raiser.

AccessAbility Day 2013 will include an informative discussion in the morning with panellists including the President of Chris Simmonds Architects Inc., and experts from the City’s Housing Services Branch, Habitat for Humanity, and the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre. Afternoon workshops will feature experts on a variety of topics relating to the, Creating Accessible Housing for All, theme.
