Yes, that is what I mean. A religion like Buddhism, the religion leader doesn't have appetite for power.你没理解“政教合一”和“国教”的区别。佛教顶多算国教-其实还不一定,因为中国传统上除了佛教还有道教的信仰以及一些原始信仰(比如祖先祭祀),这些信仰都可以同时存在于任何一个中国人身上,包括唐朝的君王。
政教合一则是宗教首领兼具了政治权力,比如欧洲中世纪时的教皇不光是宗教事务上的领袖,同时对于国王的继位登基结婚等等都可以干涉,那叫政教合一。中国历史上从来没有过和尚方丈大主持当皇帝或者高官的吧?出家当和尚的皇帝倒是有,不过一出家就把皇位扔了。
For Christian, it is different, they have their King Jesus and their law, it has the nature to grab power and let everyone follow their law. Some one call it a political religion.
After western country became religion free, some of their laws were abandoned by socialty, such as homo marriage, they have to obey something different from their own law, they call this as moral falling down.
